Hospitalizations, active cases drop in Friday COVID update: APH

The latest numbers from Algoma Public Health show a drop in the number of hospitalized patients with COVID-19 as well as a drop in the number of active cases in the region. 

The number of hospitalizations is currently 12, down by one from the previous APH numbers while the number of patients admitted for COVID-19 related reasons remains at four, which is unchanged from the previous update.

APH is reporting that there are currently four ICU patients with confirmed COVID-19, and the number of patients admitted to the ICU for COVID-19 related reasons from one to zero. 

The number of active cases in the Algoma region is 421, which is down by 23 from Thursday's update. There are also three additional active cases that are non-Algoma residents who are temporarily in the region.

There are currently 44 new confirmed COVID cases in the region, bringing the total number of cases since the start of the pandemic to 6,740 - 4,536 of which have been confirmed in 2022.

The number of resolved cases in Friday's report stands at 6,319, which is up by 67 from Thursday.

The number of completed tests in Algoma is 249,623, which is up by 219.

Note: As of Dec. 31, 2021, the province has limited COVID-19 PCR testing to the highest risk populations. Furthermore, some people with mild or asymptomatic infection may not seek testing. Algoma Public Health states that the numbers of confirmed cases are an underestimate of the actual number of people with COVID-19 in the Algoma region.
