The announcement that Sault Area Hospital (SAH) needed to purchase a new CT Scanner for our community healthcare was made in the Spring of 2015.

As an essential diagnostic tool, it quickly became a focal point of the medical equipment needs at SAH.

The CT Scanner suite in the Diagnostic Imaging Department at SAH runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and fulfills over 20,000 scans annually. The price tag of $1.9 million had not discouraged our community either.

The SAH Volunteer Association had pledged to raise $200,000 to help ensure we will have a new CT Scanner as soon as possible and on top of that the community has stepped up to support this important need.

This year’s 5 Car Draw has designated its proceeds to help purchase this essential piece of equipment.

“With over $166,000 in profits, the community’s support has helped us push even closer to our goal to purchase this new CT Scanner.” says Joe Orazietti, Volunteer Chair, 5 Car Draw. “This truly shows that everyone is a winner when they buy a ticket. Yes, we were able to award 20 great people with 20 great prizes (5- $500 Esso Gas Cards, 10 - $1000 Cash Prizes and 5 – Brand New Vehicles), but when this CT Scanner is purchased and is helping diagnose patients of our community, we’ve all won.”

The plan to replace the oldest of the two CT Scanners at SAH is underway. With quotes currently being accepted from vendors, it is believed a new CT Scanner will be in place before the end of the year.

“The Sault Area Hospital Foundation is proud to announce that with the proceeds of the 5 Car Draw this year, and the fundraising efforts of both the Volunteer Association and our Foundation, we have reached over $1 million dollars, dedicated to be disbursed for the purchase of this CT Scanner.” announced Cheryl Pavoni, Executive Director – Sault Area Hospital Foundation. “Our community has wholeheartedly supported this need and in just over a year has allowed us to reach over the half way point of this fundraising effort.”

On behalf of our community, the Sault Area Hospital Foundation Board of Directors and Staff would like to thank every donor, supporter and ticket purchaser for supporting one of our community’s greatest needs, excellent healthcare. Thank you!
