Welcome back.
Lisa Bruni and Geoff Bishop own His Hers Home on Queen Street which opened about two weeks ago.
This step in their fashion careers marks a homecoming for the duo after working the last 10 years in Vernon B.C.
Bishop owned Bishop’s Fine Clothiers in Sault Ste. Marie for a number of years. He left 20 years ago to go and work for Harry Rosen where they made him a national director. Upon leaving the corporate world he went on to British Columbia, before making the trek back home to open the downtown Sault store with Bruni.
Bruni had the First Impression Clothier store on Queen Street for 17 years, before heading out to B.C. with Bishop where they opened First Impression there.
“We came back because we want to take care of our parents,” said Bishop.
Bishop and Bruni have been in fashion all of their working lives, so it was only natural they’d keep the tradition going in the place where it all started.
“It’s my hometown,” said Bruni. “It’s good to be home.”
Not only home, but downtown, which Bruni says is the heart of any community.
How far back do the local fashion roots go?
A photo in the new store shows The Man Store in Sault Ste. Marie from 1910.
Located in downtown Sault Ste. Marie, The Man Store was the forerunner of Bishop’s Fine Clothiers.
Fast forward to 2021.
COVID-19 has thrown the retail industry for a loop and fashion was no exception.
Working from home, shopping online all had an impact, but both Bruni and Bishop see bright things ahead.
“Our industry is about to ramp up,” said Bishop. “People are tired of shopping online.”
Touching and feeling the fabric, not to mention trying clothes on, are all important aspects of the shopping experience.
His, Hers, Home sells clothes for both men and women and there’s a small selection of items for the home such as scented candles.
The store’s open Monday to Saturday 9 to 5. It’s located across from Reggie’s Tavern.
