NEWS RELEASE
HABITAT FOR HUMANITY SAULT STE. MARIE AND AREA
**************************
Habitat for Humanity Sault Ste. Marie and Area is a local non-profit community based organization serving Sault Ste. Marie Ontario and surrounding area. Habitat Sault Ste. Marie and Area offers a sustainable solution to the housing crisis facing our communities.

Our mission is to mobilize volunteers and community partners in building affordable housing and promoting home ownership to break the cycle of poverty. Our vision is a world where everyone has a safe, decent and affordable place to live.

We are presently undertaking our first ever Women’s Build days in Sault Ste. Marie. This initiative, which began in 1998 in the United States, brings together women from all walks of life to actively address the problem of children living in poverty by building Habitat for Humanity homes. Safe, decent housing is critical to a child’s health and development, yet children are the single largest age group living in poverty. In Canada, one in five children are living in poverty and one in every seven women are living in poverty.

Women’s Build is not about excluding anyone, it’s about including women and opening new doors of opportunity. Any woman who wants to learn how to build and construct a home is invited to join us. No experience is necessary. Volunteers work under the guidance of construction professionals, and also alongside other volunteers and future Habitat homeowners. Whether you are learning new skills or simply adding a few to your tool belt, this is a rewarding experience for all involved, and improves the community that you share.

Women’s Build is also a terrific way to involve your friends and family of all ages in crucial work with a lasting impact. Women helping women sends a positive and powerful message. You can also come alone, and make new friends. The atmosphere is collaborative and friendly.

Women’s Build will be held May 4 and 5. If you are interested, please call Pauline at 705-941-9646 ext. 224 or [email protected] for more information or to obtain a registration package.

Deadline for registering is April 18.
