Just Junk is once again offering to haul your Christmas tree off for free during the first week of January as a way of giving back to Sault Ste. Marie.

This marks the fifth year the local franchise has picked up discarded trees and hauled them off to the Clean North depot, where they’re turned into mulch and donated to people in an effort to divert the trees from the landfill.

“It’s that time of year to give back,” said Just Junk Sault Ste. Marie owner Jason Biggar during a telephone interview with SooToday Wednesday.

Just Junk picks up 150 trees within city limits on average each year.

“Clean North has been a fantastic partner,” Biggar said. “They usually bring on extra volunteers that day because they know we’re dropping trees off. It’s an easy, fun day to be honest.”

Biggar said the free-of-charge service helps those who end up leaving trees laying around for whatever reason.

“In the spring and summer we usually find them,” said Biggar. “When people have us come and actually do jobs, we’d end up finding old Christmas trees, sometimes multiple Christmas trees, piled up in the yard somewhere.

“Some people want to deliver trees to the Clean North depot and just don’t have the means, so it’s just nice to help people out and give back and clean up.”

Christmas trees placed outside the front of homes will be picked up Jan. 6.

The company asks those interested to fill out this online form in order to book their tree removal.
