Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board trustees approved their honoraria figures for the year at the board’s regular meeting Wednesday evening.

Calculations for trustees’ honoraria effective Nov. 15, 2024 are:

  • $6,741 for trustees
  • $12,241 for the chair of trustees
  • $9,491 for the vice-chair of trustees

School boards in Ontario may pay trustee honoraria based on four factors, including the base amount for the year, a school board’s enrolment figures for the year, attendance at board meetings and the distance trustees travel to attend board meetings and other board-related activities.

According to board Policy 2004 (Trustee Honoraria), the Huron-Superior board only pays its trustees the base and enrolment amounts.

Justin Pino, H-SCDSB Superintendent of Business provided the board with the annual calculation at Wednesday's meeting in accordance with Ontario Ministry of Education regulations.

Trustees received honoraria based on enrolment and a base amount of $5,900 for a total of $6,741.

The chair and vice-chair received that amount of $6,741 as well as chair and vice-chair base amounts of $5,000 and $2,500 respectively.

That adds up to $12,241 for the chair and $9,491 for the vice-chair.

School board trustees are officials elected by the public who help boards carry out their duties under Ontario's Education Act, focusing on student achievement and well-being. They vote on matters that benefit the board while also representing the interests of their constituents. They must also communicate with their constituents the views and decisions of the board.
