If you're travelling north of the city, prepare for potentially hazardous winter driving conditions.

Environment Canada has issued a winter weather travel advisory just north of Sault Ste. Marie, including Searchmont, Montreal River Harbour and Batchawana Bay and up Highway 17 past White River.

"Due to the fairly brief nature of this snowfall, which should last roughly four to six hours at any one location, total snowfall amounts are not expected to exceed 10 cm," the advisory said.

"However, the snow may fall heavily at times giving poor visibility. As a result, travel conditions are expected to be hazardous."

Drivers are asked to prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating conditions.

The advisory also applies to some areas east of the Sault, including Elliot Lake.

"Snow will end north of Lake Superior early this afternoon and by late afternoon for areas east of Lake Superior," Environment Canada said.
