Can you spare some change for a worthy cause?

Rotary’s Battle of the Sections takes place tonight (Friday, March 7) at the GFL Memorial Gardens when the Soo Greyhounds face off against the Barrie Colts.

This pass-the-cup fundraiser is organized each year to support Rotary youth charities.

Everyone in the arena can donate, and the section with the most donations gets some fun hand clappers sponsored by Final Touch Services to "cheer loud and proud", the local service club said in a release.

“We are so looking forward to this experience at this year's Rotary Battle of the Sections,” said Madison, whose son, Memphis, will be doing the ceremonial puck drop on behalf of Rotary.

“Our son has endured so much in his little life and missed many holidays and experiences. Having opportunities like this truly helps us as a family continue to build resiliency and hope.”

Memphis is a client at THRIVE Child Development Centre, one of the local youth charities supported by Rotary through its annual fundraisers.

Memphis’ family is “very thankful towards THRIVE Child Development Centre for putting our son's name forward for this opportunity and their continued support these past seven years.”

This will be an extra special evening, added Memphis' mom.

“Memphis turned 7 two weeks ago and unfortunately was not able to celebrate. However, we are very excited to take this opportunity to celebrate with him and support Rotary.”

Founded in 1918, the Rotary Club said its mandate to support children with disabilities has been the heart behind its hard work.

Thanks to Rotarians, volunteers, and the community, the club was able to raise $6,000 at last year's event.

"Let's aim even higher tonight!" the club said. "If you've got some spare change, we’d love for you to toss it our way during tonight’s Soo Greyhounds game!"
