Despite Mother Nature’s focused attention on winter, the Sault Ste. Marie Horticultural Society’s upcoming ‘Seedy Saturday’ is a guarantee that spring is coming!

They’ll be kicking off the promise of a growing season on Saturday, March 1 with a much-anticipated green-thumb event for new and seasoned gardeners.

“I have been involved with the Horticultural Society for over a decade and this time of year is very exciting as Seedy Saturday is the first event of the year that truly gets people thinking about spring and what they are going to plant, this year,” says Rod G. Morrison, President, Sault Ste. Marie Horticultural Society. “This is a great opportunity to connect with other gardeners and vendors who share the passion for gardening or to come out and learn how to get your own garden growing!”

New this year is the change in venue. Seedy Saturday will take place at the Algoma Public Health building at 294 Willow Avenue. Doors open at 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. and attendees can enjoy meeting the vendors, checking out the exhibits, participating in children’s activities and talking with Master Gardeners. This is an all-ages event.

“I am looking forward to our new community partners, such as Algoma Public Health, which is allowing us to grow a little bigger, this year. We have some unique seeds from vendors to people to try and a large selection of different seed varieties at a low cost at our Seed Exchange table. I think I can say that we’re all excited for the sunny season, ahead!”

The Seed Swap, open to people who have collected their own seeds to exchange, is from 9 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. The Seed Swap table will then be open for purchase, by the public, at 9:30 a.m.
