The French River Fire Department had a tough week, responding to three structure fires.
The department called the week “challenging” but thanks to “the strength and dedication of our team” they overcame those challenges without injury.
But then on Friday morning, after the department was dispatched to a home in Noelville for the week’s third fire, the tired firefighters were given a bit of a gift from the universe, one that “brought a special moment that truly warmed our hearts.”
As crews were performing an overhaul sweep of the building, Lieutenant Lukas Woolridge noticed something unusual through the main door: a basket of clothes that appeared to be moving.
Inside that basket, Woolridge found an “unexpected yet beautiful surprise”, the department said in a Facebook post, “a little pug, nestled safely in a basket of clothes amidst the chaos.”
Luckily for the little cutey, the fire was mostly contained to the second floor of the structure and the puppy was safely insulated amidst the clothing.
“Against all odds, Pugsy was unharmed,” the fire department said. “Shortly after, we had the joy of reuniting this courageous little guy with his owner.”
French River Fire said the moment of joy was a helpful reminder of their role in the community.
“Moments like these remind us why we do what we do. It’s not just about protecting buildings—it’s about preserving lives, big or small, and offering hope during moments of hardship.
“We couldn’t be prouder of our team and the community we serve. Let this story serve as a reminder of resilience, hope, and the unwavering bond between people and their furry family members.”
