In a news release issued today, the Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon (CSCN) – which includes Notre-Dame-du-Sault in Sault Ste. Marie – announced that Jhonel Morvan has been appointed superintendent of education.
He brings with him more than 30 years experience in the education field, starting his career in 1990 in Haiti prior to relocating to Canada.
“In addition to completing a Certificate in Human Rights for Education Professionals at York University’s Osgoode Hall Law School, Mr. Morvan is currently pursuing his doctoral studies at Brock University in educational leadership and policy studies with a focus on school leadership and equity in school mathematics,” the release states.

The Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon is proud to announce the appointment of Mr. Jhonel Morvan as superintendent of education. Mr. Morvan brings his educational training, administrative management and relevant teaching and learning experience in this field to the position, which he will take up on Nov. 1, 2021.
Having started his career in education in 1990, Jhonel Morvan has held positions in Haiti and afterwards in Canada. In addition to his experience as a lecturer and professor at various universities, Mr. Morvan has taught in elementary and secondary schools in Ontario, as well as serving as a school principal in Haiti and head of summer programs in Ontario. He is also the pedagogical director of the Educator and Leadership Institute (ELI) since 2014 and served as education officer at the Ontario Ministry of Education from 2009 to 2020.
Since 2020, he has served as a manager of the Curriculum Policy Unit at the Ontario Ministry of Education. In addition to completing a Certificate in Human Rights for Education Professionals at York University’s Osgoode Hall Law School, Mr. Morvan is currently pursuing his doctoral studies at Brock University in educational leadership and policy studies with a focus on school leadership and equity in school mathematics.
Mr. Morvan can draw on broad expertise that will be highly beneficial in his new role. Thanks to his knowledge of the provincial educational environment as well as his management experience in Ontario, he will occupy a strategic leadership position within CSC Nouvelon. As superintendent of education, he will support the schools under his supervision, contribute to the implementation of the school board’s major strategic orientations as well as to the success and well-being of each student in a Francophone and Catholic environment.
“Mr. Morvan has displayed great leadership in the educational field and his presence at CSC Nouvelon will be an asset,” explains Mr. Paul Henry, director of education and secretary treasurer at CSC Nouvelon. “An experienced manager, Jhonel stands out with his knowledge of provincial curriculum, educational resources and provincial learning strategies in mathematics. With over 15 years of experience in educational management, Jhonel will play a leading role in our strategic planning and the overall functioning of the CSC Nouvelon.”
The Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon offers a French-language Catholic Educational Program that is widely recognized for its excellence. The CSC Nouvelon provides a quality learning environment and academic program that runs from early childhood to adult education, with some 6,400 students enrolled in 27 elementary schools, a virtual school and 10 secondary schools.
