Sault Ste. Marie PUC has found a buyer for its vacant building at 510 Second Line East.

Multiple sources confirm to SooToday that the C.J. Murphy building was sold Friday with all conditions lifted.

The transaction is to close August 31.

Sam Butkovich of Re/Max Sault Ste. Marie Realty Inc. is acting for the buyer.

Listing agent was James Caicco, broker of record at Century 21.

Neither purchase price nor the identity of the buyer have been disclosed.

Spokespersons for The Tech told SooToday this afternoon that they will lease the building to provide custom trades training there.

A source close to the deal advised us that some light manufacturing may occur as part of the training.

Based in the former Sault Tech/ Lakeway Collegiate/ St. Mary's College site on Wellington Street, The Tech houses tenants from the arts, athletics and trade sectors to provide skills training.

510 Second Line East was originally listed for sale in February, 2012.

Amit Sofer's Algoma Medicinal Alliance was hoping to use the building to grow medical marijuana.

That project was abandoned in January 2015 after Dr. Kim Barker resigned as chief executive officer and medical officer of health at Algoma Public Health and advised Health Canada she was no longer involved in the legal grow-op bid.
