Fire truck stops at Station Mall, gets towed (8 photos)

Each fire truck weighs over 30,000 pounds and teams used heavy ropes to pull them 60 feet across the Station Mall parking lot.

Hot Trotters from Algoma Remand Centre pulled their way to the finish line in the fastest time: 10.31 seconds.

Sault Ste. Marie, ON - For the fifth year straight, UBetcha Tap & Grill supported The Lung Association by continuing to be a major contributor to the Pull For Kids event.

Newcomers, the Station Mall also sponsored the event.

Firefighters from Sault Ste. Marie and surrounding area, businesses and other local heroes came together yesterday at the Station Mall parking lot to compete in the Fifth Annual Pull for Kids, in support of The Lung Association.

Seven local teams raised pledges totalling close to $10,000.

Sault Ste. Marie Police Services team brought in the most pledges at $2142 while the Goulais River Fire Services team came in second with a total of $1738.

Top individual fund raiser was Lisa Kenopic from the Sault Ste. Marie Police Services team, single handedly raising $1250.

Algoma Remand Centre was the fastest team in the finals, taking home the first place award by pulling a fire truck sixty feet in 10.31 seconds.

Second place was awarded to Sault Ste. Marie Police Services (11.13 seconds), while Goulais River Fire Services took third (12.35 sec.).

The teams were all very spirited, however the spirit award went to Algoma Remand Centre who cheered on every team as they pulled the 32,848 pound trucks.

A special thank you to Goulais River Fire Services and Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services for the use of equipment and for their expertise in planning for the event.

Thank you also goes out to all who attended, volunteered and participated in this year's pull.

All funds raised will support asthma programs and research and assist The Lung Association in it's mission to improve lung health.
