Fire crews respond to smoky incident in downtown (5 photos)

No injuries have been reported after light plumes of smoke were witnessed coming from a dwelling near the downtown core

Shortly before 6:45 p.m. on Sunday, Sault Fire Services responded to reports of a fire on Bruce Street near the Beth Jacob Synagogue.

At the scene, light smoke could be seen escaping from the structure of an older home.

Fire crews were observed breaking a window on the dwelling’s top floor in an apparent effort to air out the smoke from the inside.

Residents told SooToday they believe the home was unoccupied prior to the incident.

There was no apparent damage to the structure’s outside.

Police had traffic blocked on Bruce St. between Wellington Street East and Albert Street East as firefighters took control of the situation.

No injuries have been reported, and the cause of the incident is unknown at this time.

We will update this story as more information becomes available.
