Current situation There were two fires that were actioned yesterday, in Cochrane and Sault Ste. Marie districts.

These fires are out at this time.

The OPP detachment in Red Lake has reported that the Pikangikum First Nation lost its school due to a fire that caused heavy damage last night.

Pikangikum is not accessible by road and MNR will be flying into the community this morning to ensure that this fire has not spread into the bush line or threatening other buildings.

Fire activity is expected to remain quiet over the weekend.

Ongoing fires

SUD 46, Monitoring and IR scanning in the interior of these burns are ongoing.

Fire staff with the Thunder Bay Fire Management Headquarters continue to monitor the fire areas of Thunder Bay Fire Number 37, currently classed as under control with 13,000 hectares burned over.

They are also monitoring Thunder Bay Fire Number 39 which is classed as under control with 685 hectares burned over.

Sioux Lookout Fire Management Headquarters staff continue to monitor Sioux Lookout Fire Number 11. Infrared scanning is planned for this fire which is classed as under control with 16,702 hectares burned over.

There is a continued risk of thunderstorms forecast for the east portions of the region, although the western sectors are expected to be mainly sunny with light to moderate west-southwesterly winds and normal and above normal temperatures. To report a fire:
