Fire at 445 Sherbourne (7 photos)

The fire was knocked down by 3:45 a.m.

A structure fire at 445 Sherbourne early Sunday morning was confined to a storage unit attached to the south side of the building says Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services Platoon Chief Stan Martynuck.

The fire department received a call from city police at 2:54 a.m. and all units responded to the call.

An ambulance was on standby but no one was taken to hospital.

At 3:45 a.m. the fire was declared under control and most of the 13 fire fighters on scene returned to their fire stations.

"The fire has been knocked down, or put out," said Martynuck. "We're going to start our investigation and looking inside."

The cause of the fire and extent of damage from it are unknown at this time.

Several businesses are located at 445 Sherbourne Street.

SooToday will have more on this story as information becomes available.
