Canada's Environment Minister is holding a public consultation on Canada's 2030 Emissions Reduction plan, and The Coalition for Algoma Passenger Trains (CAPT) is asking the public to have their say.
In a news release issued Friday evening, the organization urged the public to give their feedback on seven topics - buildings, electricity, heavy industry (including oil and gas), transportation, agriculture and waste, nature-based solutions, and economy.
There are also five slightly longer questions on barriers, opportunities, enabling strategies, economic/social issues and engagement.
"If you have a strong opinion on any of these things, PLEASE take the time to participate in the consultation," the release states.
The public consultation is open until Friday, Jan. 14.

Dear friends, acquaintances and concerned citizens
Canada's Environment Minister is holding a public consultation, which is open till Friday, Jan. 14, on Canada's 2030 Emissions Reduction plan.
Please give them your feedback here.
They are asking for inputs on seven topics (buildings, electricity, heavy industry (including oil and gas), transportation, agriculture and waste, nature-based solutions, and economy). There are also five slightly longer questions on barriers, opportunities, enabling strategies, economic/social issues and engagement.
If you have a strong opinion on any of these things, PLEASE take the time to participate in the consultation.
A group called Climate Messengers has put together a toolkit that can help you answer the questions. https://link.climatemessengers.ca/consult.
The only plan that the government has for passenger rail is to build high frequency rail between Toronto and Quebec. There is NOTHING planned for Northern Ontario. We should point out that passenger rail should be restored in Northern Ontario on the existing rail beds as it is the least polluting mode of transportation for the long distances that have to be traveled in Northern Ontario. Point out that Northern Ontario constitutes 90% of the province's landmass but the only modes of transportation are the most polluting ones: by road and air.
Funding for the Bear Train between Sault Ste. Marie and Hearst should be restored immediately.
You don't have to answer every question, but know that they typically count how many people are in favour or against certain measures, and if the public is asking for stronger or weaker actions.
The average citizen supports strong climate measures, but the government rarely hears from them!
Thank you,
The Coalition for Algoma Passenger Trains
