A fire that broke out in a second storey apartment on East Street yesterday afternoon was caused by “smoking materials in close proximity to a bed,” states a news release issued by Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services.
Smoke was seen coming from the building when fire crews arrived on-scene shortly after 2 p.m.
The apartment sustained smoke and fire damage. No injuries were reported as a result of this incident, however two individuals were seen by attending paramedics as a precaution.
“Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services would like to remind all citizens to not smoke in bed or while laying down, use a large deep ashtray, and always ensure smoking materials are extinguished properly,” the release says.
