Conditions were favourable yesterday for viewing the northern lights — also called aurora borealis — across much of Ontario.

Last night’s light show was the result of a strong geomagnetic storm that hit Earth Monday, according to US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Space Weather Prediction Centre.

Clear skies in remote areas — away from light pollution — offered the best chances to view the Northern Lights.

SooToday photojournalist Kenneth Armstrong photographed the northern lights last night northwest of Sault Ste. Marie on the shore of Lake Superior.
