Trailer did not blow off of the Mackinac Bridge

Video posted to social media appears to show a trailer being blown over the side of the five-mile long suspension bridge Wednesday night — but the Mackinac Bridge Authority says that's not exactly what went down

The Mackinac Bridge Authority is debunking a video on social media that appears to show a trailer being blown over the side of the five-mile long suspension bridge Wednesday night.

Bridge authority spokesperson James Lake says the low-resolution video — which had amassed more than 3,000 shares as of Thursday morning — shows something being blown over the Mackinac Bridge.

But it definitely wasn't a trailer.

“A flatbed trailer was being pulled across the bridge by another vehicle, and that trailer had a framework built on top of it with wood and covered by a tarp — and that tarp cover blew off of the bridge,” Lake said.

The incident happened at approximately 6:15 p.m. Wednesday as the northbound vehicle was approaching the north tower of the bridge.
