A new vision for Sault Ste. Marie's waterfront continues to take shape.

The city announced today that Phase 1 of the project, community input, has been completed.

Phase 2 is now underway, including design concepts that will identify focal points and "the potential transformation that lies ahead."

Phase 3 is expected to start this spring, when the design concepts will be revealed in their entirety so members of the public can provide feedback.

The ambitious project is a joint initiative of the City of Sault Ste. Marie, Tourism Sault Ste. Marie and Destination Northern Ontario. The goal is to create a waterfront design plan that spans from Bondar Marina to the Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre, transforming the area into "a world-class destination."

More information about the project can be found on the city’s website.

As SooToday previously reported, the city is also examining the possibility of creating an urban beach at Bellevue Park.
