A Sault Ste. Marie man charged in the stabbing death of another young man will go to trial in the fall of next year.

Montana Lewis faces a charge of first-degree murder in connection with the 2020 incident.

The date for the three-week jury trial, which is scheduled to begin on Nov. 18, 2024 at the Sault courthouse, was set Wednesday in the Superior Court of Justice.

Three days, beginning on April 22, 2024, have been set aside for pre-trial motions.

Lewis was committed to stand trial on the charge in August 2022, following a preliminary hearing.

A publication ban prohibits reporting any evidence heard at that hearing.

At the time of the incident, city police said officers responded to reports of an altercation in the east end of the city at 4:35 p.m.

They discovered the victim, who was transported to Sault Area Hospital and later died as a result of his injuries.
