An expected decision on bail for Sault native Pat King has been delayed today in Ottawa after the Crown made a rare application to re-open the case to allow new evidence.

Assistant Crown attorney Moiz Karimjee said he received fresh, unexpected information after King's bail hearing earlier this week.

King is facing four criminal charges related to his role as a leader at the Ottawa protests: mischief, counselling to commit mischief, counselling to disobey a court order and counselling to obstruct police.

Crown attorney Moiz Karimjee says King violated the release conditions of a 2016 charge for uttering threats, which Karimjee argues shows King can’t be trusted to follow the terms of any release.

Court heard the threat charge was resolved in 2017 by peace bond.

King’s lawyer, Cal Rosemond, is asking Seymour to dismiss Karimjee’s request, saying that Karimjee could have unearthed this before King’s bail hearing earlier this week.

Rosemond also says the administration of justice would be harmed if King has to stay in jail for another weekend while awaiting a bail decision.

Court is scheduled to reconvene early this afternoon.

Note to readers: This is a corrected story. A previous version said Pat King faced a firearms charge in 2016.
