Couple moves to the Sault and wins almost $75K

A local resident is $74,732 richer after his ticket number was pulled in September's Sault Area Hospital Foundation 50/50 draw.

John Wirta was "speechless" when he received the news. 

John and his wife, Joy, recently relocated to Sault Ste. Marie to be closer to family. “We always support our community and look forward to doing that here,” he said in a news release issued today.

John has decided to celebrate his winnings by creating new memories on a tropical family getaway.

On Oct. 1, 2024, John Wirta of Sault Ste. Marie, ON won a $74,732 jackpot in the Sault Area Hospital Foundation (SAHF) September 50/50 draw. John’s lucky bonus number (S-3718232) was drawn electronically, and he was called immediately.

As a recent supporter of SAHF, John was speechless when we called to tell him he was September’s jackpot winner! John and his wife, Joy, recently relocated to Sault Ste. John wasn’t the only winner this month – September’s Early Bird, James Nedeau of Sault Ste. Marie, ON, was the lucky winner of $10,000 on September 19 with bonus number S-595869.

Tickets are 10 for $10; 60 for $20; 200 for $40; or 750 for $75. In addition to online sales at www.soolottery.ca, tickets can be purchased in person at the Sault Area Hospital Foundation Office (750 Great Northern Road) from 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Ticket buyers must be 18 years of age or older and in the province of Ontario to play.
