Coroner’s office cannot comment on body discovered last week in Sudbury

Further inquiries into the death of an elderly man whose body was discovered by firefighters battling a bush fire last week in Sudbury have not provided any new information.

Greater Sudbury Fire Services were at the scene of a bush fire in Naughton on Oct. 21 when they discovered the body of an elderly man at the site of the fire, which was off Cyr Street in Naughton. Greater Sudbury Police were notified.

GSPS officers attended the scene and recovered the body of the 86-year-old man. 

Police said no foul play or criminality was suspected in the death and the body was turned over to the Office of the Chief Coroner/Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.

Sudbury.com reached out to the coroner's office to find if any further information could be revealed with respect to the death of the individual.

"Due to privacy provisions under the Coroners Act we are unable to provide any details surrounding death investigations," said a return email from Stephanie Rea of the coroner's office.
