Sault Conservatives say they're missing hundreds of provincial election signs and they think they have sufficient evidence for police to lay a charge.
"There's definitely about 350 that we can tell so far," says Ross Romano, campaign manager for PC candidate Chris Scott.
Romano, a lawyer and former Sault MPP, says a party supporter witnessed someone carrying signs late last night and snapped a photo of his licence plate.
Romano was at Sault Ste. Marie Police Service headquarters today to provide a video statement about the evidence.
"She saw an individual at the TD on Capp Avenue," Romano told SooToday.
"He appeared to be putting about five or six PC Chris Scott signs under his arm and was running into his car, a Hyundai Santa Fe.
"She followed him and took a picture of his licence plate. The licence plate is very clear in the photo."
Romano said the woman witnessed the man doing the same thing at another location.
"Looks like he had a very long, hard night at work," the woman said in a text to Scott.
"I'm shocked. I've never seen this happen before," Romano said.
"Based on what everything appears to be, I suspect there will be more coming from a policing perspective.
"Even when we've had damage to a sign, we've never, ever been in a position where somebody actually has evidence like this.
"And it's quite clearly evidence. So I think there's going to be plenty to talk about once the police conclude an investigation," Romano said.
