The Comedics are a group of local doctors and non-medical supporters who have made immeasurable contributions to the local non-profit sector here in Sault Ste. Marie.
The Comedics rehearse, create original material, arrange performances and schedule fundraising gigs entirely on their own time for the good of the community.
First formed in 1996, The Comedics trace their roots to Dr. Brian Shamess and Dr. John Pearson. Dr. Gene Turgeon is now the group’s frontman and the group now boasts an estimated 300 to 400 original songs and parodies.
The community-minded group has generously donated their time by providing entertainment, such as parodies of current events, medical procedures and original songs, at local fundraising events.
Over the last 27 years, The Comedics have raised over two million dollars for various charities and organizations, including the Sault Community Theatre Centre, Sault Symphony Orchestra, Fringe North International Theatre Festival, the Alzheimer Society, Tracy’s Dream Foundation, Sault Area Hospital Foundation, the Canadian Cancer Society, the Red Cross and many more.
Beyond raising much-needed funds for local organizations, The Comedics have created countless meaningful memories for citizens in our community by performing and uniting people through music and laughter.
This award goes to an individual or group with big ideas that has had a significant impact on the community.
Congratulations to The Comedics!
