Commercial vehicle blitz taking place in the Sault this week

Police were seen pulling over commercial vehicles on Second Line Tuesday

A commercial vehicle blitz is happening in the Sault and surrounding area this week.

On Tuesday, members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) — with the support of the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) and Sault Ste. Marie Police Service — were spotted on Second Line East near Black Road, pulling over commercial vehicles and directing them to Strathclair Park for further inspection.

A spokesperson for the MTO told SooToday that they are working with the OPP and other partners to focus on major factors that contribute to fatal, personal injury and property damage collisions in the northeast region, including mandatory alcohol screening, speed enforcement and commercial vehicle enforcement.

Commercial vehicle enforcement efforts in Sault Ste. Marie and the surrounding area will continue “over the next few days,” according to the MTO.
