Older adults are invited to join the Algoma Ontario Health Team as it hosts its upcoming Community Education Series on Healthy Aging.

The series, beginning on March 5, was developed to promote overall health and wellness among older adults. It will explore various aspects of healthy aging.

Sessions will take place every Tuesday from 3 to 4:30 p.m. from March 5 until April 2 at the James L. McIntyre Centennial Library, located at 50 East Street, Sault Ste. Marie.

“As a Nurse Practitioner, I've seen firsthand the importance of focusing on healthy aging. It's about ensuring that as we age, we maintain independence, and purpose. Through our community education events, we aim to empower individuals with knowledge and resources to thrive and age with resilience. By focusing on practical topics, we hope to promote independence, healthy active living and overall wellness,” says Lyndsay Suurna, local Nurse Practitioner and Gerontology program coordinator at Sault College.

The following topics will be covered during the sessions:

  • Healthy aging and frailty
  • Physical activity and staying fit
  • Medication safety
  • Mental wellness
  • Staying safe in your home

These events are open to all community members interested in healthy aging. The sessions are free of charge and the venue is wheelchair accessible.

Anyone interested is encouraged to call 705-941-0572 to register in advance.
