A 17-year-old male will make a video court appearance today on a charge of assault with a weapon, after an incident yesterday at a Sault Ste. Marie high school.
Another youth, a 16-year-old male, was charged with common assault in the same incident at St. Basil Secondary School at 250 St. Georges Avenue East.
Police were dispatched to the school yesterday afternoon after a third youth was confronted and then punched and kicked.
Police have accused the 17-year-old of having a CO2 cartridge (like the one shown) in his hand and using it during the assault.
The 16-year-old was released but the 17-year-old was held overnight for an appearance today in Weekend and Statutory Holiday (WASH) Court, which uses video technology for bail hearings and consent releases. Overnight, police made ten arrests on a variety of matters.
Five of the arrested persons were youths who cannot be named under Ontario's Youth Criminal Justice Act.
There was one charge of impaired driving overnight.
