NEWS RELEASE

****************************** Arrests of child pornography offenders

The Provincial Strategy to Protect Children from Sexual Abuse and Exploitation on the Internet has laid numerous charges in connection with a co-ordinated, province-wide child pornography investigation.

The Provincial Strategy to Protect Children from Sexual Abuse and Exploitation on the Internet was created in August 2006 in response to the McGuinty government’s request that police develop a coordinated, province-wide approach to combating Internet crimes against children.

The provincial strategy is jointly supported by the Ministry of the Attorney-General for Ontario and the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services.

As a result of this investigation, 20-year-old David Marceau of 160 Turner Avenue, Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, was arrested on the 9th of March at 7:10 a.m. at his residence and charged with one count of possession of child pornography and one count of possession of child pornography for the purpose of distribution.

He was to appear in bail court this morning.

The investigation is continuing locally and an arrest warrant has been issued for another local male.
