THE CITY OF SAULT STE. MARIE

No coins? No Problem! Beginning today, a new app called Passport Parking Canada will allow drivers in Sault Ste. Marie to pay for metered street parking and city-run lots using their smartphone.

Signage has been placed at various lots and meters across the downtown directing drivers to visit the mobile parking payment solution on their smartphone. Users can register and download the Passport Canada iOS and Android app, which is available now.

“We are happy to offer another option for drivers to pay for parking, one that we feel is quite innovative,” says Brent Lamming, director of community services. “Most people seem to have a smart phone, but not everyone has change in their pocket. Drivers can pay, extend and manage their parking sessions with just a few taps, its quite convenient and user friendly.”

Street meters and pay and display terminals will continue to accept coins and credit cards in addition to the mobile parking app. Drivers can download the Passport Parking app from the Apple App Store or Google Play store. They will then have to create an account with their mobile phone number or email address and park anywhere a Passport Parking app sign and decal appears. Parking sessions can be paid using one’s phone and extended time can be added remotely. The Passport Parking app also warns users when their time is running low and a top-up option is given. Users may keep track of their parking history and receive email receipts. The transaction fee for using the app is $0.15 cents.
