City awarded federal funding for Memorial Tower restoration

Funding will be used for the installation of a commemorative display as well as interior and exterior repairs

Sault Ste. Marie MP Terry Sheehan announced today that the City of Sault Ste. Marie is receiving up to $24,986 to help restore the Memorial Tower which stands in the parking lot adjacent to the Memorial Gardens.

The funding comes from the Community War Memorial fund through Veterans Affairs Canada’s Commemorative Partnership Program.

"I acknowledge the Mayor and all of City Council for their commitment to restoring this very special site that recognizes the ultimate sacrifice that women and men in the Canadian Armed Forces have made to protect our democracy," said Sheehan in a news release issued today. "It is truly an honour as your MP to be part of this project…  Lest we forget.”

The Government of Canada is dedicated to commemorating the sacrifices of the brave men and women who have served Canada in uniform. We continue to preserve their legacy and recognize their contributions and sacrifices as a way of passing the torch of remembrance to future generations.

Terry Sheehan, Member of Parliament for Sault Ste. Marie, today announced Government of Canada funding to restore the Memorial Tower, erected in memory of Sault Ste. Marie Veterans. MP Sheehan made the announcement on behalf of the Honourable Lawrence MacAulay, Minister of Veterans Affairs and Associate Minister of National Defence.

The restoration of the Memorial Tower will include the installation of a commemorative display as well as interior and exterior repairs.
