With winter coming to an end, a number of benches along Bay Street and Albert Street that were put in place by the city have been damaged and will need to be repaired or replaced.
The benches were installed as part of the 2019 Bay Street reconstruction contract, said Dan Perri director of public works.
Most of the benches have some degree of damage. Some of the more heavily damaged benches have been covered.
"Some benches sustained damage over the winter and staff are assessing their condition as part of our regular seasonal maintenance. The benches are covered while we determine how to repair or replace them," Perri said.
The total cost for all of the benches at the time was $2,600, which included labour, materials and the concrete bases.
Repair or replacement will be conducted by the city.
"Depending on the extent of the damage, the entire bench and concrete bases may not need to be replaced. Some components may be repaired by public works staff," Perri said.
