Chuck gives back

Sault College has received a generous donation from one of its esteemed Alumni.

Charles (Chuck) Cartmill, 1969 Electrical Technology graduate has pledged $5,000 towards Sault College’s Scholarship, Bursary and Awards program. 

Cartmill was in Sault Ste. Marie this week delivering the Business Mentorship and Hearing from the Expert workshop through the Sault Ste. Marie Innovation Centre.

“Sault College is an organization filled with informed, energized and committed staff and students dedicated to the revered opportunities of its Northern location. I am grateful to Sault College as the institution that facilitated my learning and provided me with the foundation that was required to be successful in my life and career,” says Cartmill.

Cartmill is the Founder, Majority Shareholder and Chair’s LED RTF and LED Roadway Lighting Limited of Halifax and Amherst Nova Scotia which he built from a one person start up in 2002 to a globally successful technology company employing 250 people in the province of Nova Scotia and exporting to over 40 countries.

LED Roadway Lighting is the manufacturer of the fixtures being used in Sault Ste. Marie’s LED Streetlight Conversion Project, scheduled for completion in fall of 2016.

Best described as a serial Entrepreneur, Cartmill is currently CEO of Solar Global Solution Ltd. of Halifax Nova Scotia, a leading edge renewable energy microgrid and off grid lighting manufacturer, C-Therm Ltd., a thermal conductivity company and Think Tank Water Heaters Ltd., a designer of water heater controllers for use by utilities in reduce and shift demand programs both originating in Fredericton New Brunswick.

Cartmill has been named to the top 50 CEOs in Atlantic Canada list six years in a row, spanning from 2005 to 2010.

He has also been selected as Ernst and Young Manufacturing Entrepreneur of the year and overall Atlantic Canada Entrepreneur of the year.

Cartmill serves on Minister Chrystia Freeland’s Small Medium-Sized Enterprises Advisory Board where advice and recommendations are made to the Minister of International Trade.

Cartmill also serves on the Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters regional advisory board and on its Energy Committee.

“Chuck is one of Sault College’s esteemed graduates who depicts excellence in education,” states Tyler Epp, Manager of Alumni Relations and Events at Sault College. “We thank Chuck for his support in advancing post-secondary education in our community and for giving back to the College that facilitated his learning.”
