The good people at Christmas Cheer are getting their 2016 depot ready at 24 Second Line West (in the former Transcom building).

Signage will be erected soon to clearly identify the building as this year’s Christmas Cheer site, said Diane Marshall, Christmas Cheer convenor.

Marshall told SooToday between 1,600 and 1,830 families have been helped through Christmas Cheer in recent years, with 1,700 families assisted in 2015.

Marshall said enough food for 1,800 families is the target this year.

The Christmas Cheer depot will be open Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. starting Monday, Nov. 14.

It will also be open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, November 26 and Saturday, Dec. 3.

The application line will be open Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., beginning Tuesday, Nov. 1, at (705) 942-9660.

The deadline to apply for Christmas Cheer is Wednesday, Dec. 7.

Delivery of Christmas Cheer baskets will be for one day only, Tuesday, Dec. 20.

As reported earlier by SooToday, the building at 24 Second Line West will be home to Christmas Cheer for this year only, with organizers hoping to find a new base for Christmas 2017.
