Algoma Public Health will be sending out letters this week to the parents and guardians of students who are missing immunization records.
Under the Immunization of School Pupil’s Act, all students under the age of 18 need to be up to date with the required vaccines in Ontario, or have a valid immunization exemption on file with APH.
“Vaccines play a crucial role in protecting our school and communities by reducing the spread of preventable disease,” said Dr. Tuinema, the acting medical officer of health at APH. “The entire community benefits when our children are up to date on their immunizations.”
Students who do not meet the requirements could be suspended for up to 20 days.
“The suspension may be re-issued for additional periods of up to 20 days if the information is not received,” said APH in a news release.
