Young hockey players are raising money for their teams and their community this weekend at various locations for the Bell Celebrity Skate.
The U11 Volkswagen Vikings were at Metro on Northern Avenue on Friday to raise money.
“This is the second year we have gone out into the public to collect donations,” shared Mara Heffernan, manager of the team. “The kids are very excited.”
Fundraising for the Bell Celebrity Skate ends on Nov. 12. That's when participating individuals and teams will gather at the GFL Memorial Gardens for a skate with the Soo Greyhounds from 6-9 p.m..
“They are most looking forward to meeting the Greyhounds,” said Heffernan. “They really look up to them. A few of the boys will say they want to play on the Greyhounds, so it should be a lot of fun”.
All money raised for this event goes back into our community.
Qualifying teams receive 50 per cent of what they raise to further youth sports and activities in Algoma while the other 50 per cent will go to local Rotary youth projects such as THRIVE Child Development Centre, Rotary Youth Exchange, and the Rotary Algoma STEM Fair.
