Calling all artists: City looking for new creations to display in Paul Mall alley

Local artists have until Oct. 18 to apply for a spot to display their work downtown
Paul Mall alley

The Paul Mall alley display project is looking to feature six new visual artist's work throughout 2025-26.

The work will be featured in display units at 642 Queen St. E. downtown and give local and regional artists a chance to have a public space to display their artwork.

"Artists are invited to submit one portfolio piece to be digitally reproduced and displayed along with the artist’s biography, contact, website, and social media details in the display units," says a news release from the City of Sault Ste. Marie. "Artists working in a broad range of two dimensional or shallow relief media, including painters, photographers, collage artists, mosaic and graffiti artists are encouraged to participate."

Artists must be able to provide digital copies of their chosen artwork meeting the specifications listed in the Call for Artists guidelines. All artworks will be reviewed, and selections will be made by a project selection group. Selected artists will receive an artist’s fee of $600 for a 12-month display period. If an extended showing is possible, artists will receive an additional $50 for each additional month that the artwork is on display.

Applications will be accepted until Oct. 18, 2024, at 4:30 p.m. and the application is available on the City's website.
