The exciting wrap to four years studying for a business or commerce degree at Algoma University is always the high-pressure Northern Ontario Business Case Competition.
This year, 10 teams of students will gather April 5 to come up with the best strategy for their issue, working against the clock, according to a news release.
Students are given an unknown business case, overhead transparencies, markers, calculators and that's it.
With no access to electronics or the internet, they are isolated in a room for three hours where they must prepare a thorough solution to the business problem which is then presented to a panel of judges composed of local and regional business professionals.
After the presentations, the judges evaluate the teams’ solutions and are free to challenge the students with questions or concerns. A dinner will follow with all competition participants and guests from the business community. Afterwards, celebrity judges will participate in a panel discussion with dinner attendants.
To conclude the evening, an awards ceremony will be held, where the winning teams (1st, 2nd, and 3rd place) will be announced.
