Sault Ste. Marie Police Service Chief of Police Hugh Stevenson has officially resigned effective today, and chair of the police board has announced his interim replacement.
In a message sent this morning, board chair John Bruno thanked Stevenson for his service and said Deputy Chief Brent Duguay will assume the role as Interim Acting Chief.
Meanwhile, Stevenson is set to run for the Conservative Party in the upcoming federal election expected to be called today.

It is with mixed emotions that we announce, effective March 23, 2025, Hugh Stevenson has resigned as the Chief of Police of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service.
Effective March 23, 2025, Deputy Chief Brent Duguay will assume the role as Interim Acting Chief. With 30 years of policing experience with the Sault Ste. Marie Police, we as the Board are confident he will lead us well during this transition.
We want to thank Hugh Stevenson for his years of dedicated service to the community and the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service.
