Bon Soo adds go-kart ice racing

As the 48th annual Bon Soo Winter Carnival draws near, event organizers have a few new gems in store for local winter enthusiasts. On Saturday, February 12 and Sunday, February 13, Gold Motorsports will host go-kart racing on ice at Runway Park.

As the 48th annual Bon Soo Winter Carnival draws near, event organizers have a few new gems in store for local winter enthusiasts.

On Saturday, February 12 and Sunday, February 13, Gold Motorsports will host go-kart racing on ice at Runway Park.

This event is sponsored by Maxx Graphics, Northside Toyota and Anchors Away.

The new Bon Soo Bon Spiel at Tarentorus Curling Club (56 Avery Road) will see teams of four curl three games with an awards dinner to follow.

Teams must be registered with the Bon Soo office by January 28.

Also new to Bon Soo is the co-ed team tug-of-war competition to be held on Saturday, February 12 at 1 p.m. in the Nicolet Tavern parking lot.

This year's Bon Soo premiere concert is a blast from the past featuring tributes to Donna Summer, ABBA and the Bee Gees.

The concert takes place at the Essar Centre on February 12 at 8 p.m.

Tickets are $20 each and may be purchased at the Athlete's Foot in the Station Mall.

For the youngsters, Bon Soo will once again host its annual youth concert featuring tributes to Lady Gaga and Katy Perry on Saturday, February 5 at 8 p.m. (doors open at 7 p.m.) at the Riuniti Banquet Hall.

Never fear - All the most popular Bon Soo events will return in 2011, including the opening ceremony fireworks display at Bellevue Park on February 4, snow canoeing at the Tim Hortons Winter Playground at Bellevue Park from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on February 5 and 6, the SnoPitch tournament at the Nicolet Tavern on February 12 and the ever-popular Polar Bear Swim at Bellevue Park on February 13 at 1 p.m.
