The body of 65-year-old Shirley Hatley of Sault Ste Marie was discovered under a canal dock early Sunday by a father and son who were out fishing, according to Kawartha Lakes This Week.
As SooToday reported earlier today, Kawartha Lakes OPP consider her death to be a homicide, and have charged Norman May of Bruce Mines with second-degree murder.
May seems to have lived his 56 years with very little mention on social media or the world wide web.
Hatley lost her husband, Robert Lechasseur, six years ago when he collapsed working in the bush near White River.
She had lived many years there, with work experience including Tritimber Contracting Inc. and the popular Continental Motel and Dining Lounge owned by White River Mayor Angelo Bazzoni.
After losing her husband, Hatley had moved around to be close to her children.
Most recently, she announced on social media in January that she was working as a clerk-cashier at Home Depot in Sault Ste. Marie.
Reports on Kawartha.com indicate the dock under which she was discovered was on a Sturgeon Lake canal in the Fenelon Falls area.
Police banged on a neighbour's door, but at first no one came out, the news outlet said.
Finally, the occupants presented themselves and one man was said to have been taken away in handcuffs.
Norman May remains in custody after a bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Lindsay, Ont. on Monday, July 12.
