All has gone quiet in the big beige block at the eastern-most end of Station Mall since Sears Canada’s decision to pull the plug on its 43-year-old Sault Ste. Marie department store, including the city’s only known working escalator (if you have one at home, let us know in the comments).
The rest of them, it turns out, don't have much longer, with a liquidation of all remaining stores having been approved in October.
SooToday was there on the final day at Station Mall, as employees and customers said goodbye.
