Churchill Plaza will be the home of Sault Ste. Marie's fourth Liquor Control Board of Ontario outlet, SooToday has learned.
The plaza's owner has obtained a $1.2-million building permit for landlord improvements to the existing Dollarama and Aaron's furniture stores near the Metro.
Those two spaces will be carved into three retail spaces to be occupied by Dollarama, Aaron's and the east end's only LCBO.
Dollarama is one of three anchor tenants in Churchill Plaza.
The other anchors there are Metro and The Beer Store.
Dollarama, Aaron's and LCBO are also expected to seek building permits for their own individual fit-ups, so the final cost of the improvements will be considerably more than $1.2 million.
The plaza owner's $1.2-million permit was the largest in the city during an unremarkable October that saw a total of $4.9 million in building permits issued, most of them for single houses.
That compares to $8.3 million worth of permits issued during the same period last year.
Year-to-date permits as of the end of October were $135.7 million, compared to $252.1 million for the first 10 months of 2022.
Some other permits of interest from last month:
- $500,000 for a new two-storey triplex at 188 Bloor St. W.
