Bellevue Marina, tennis courts to re-open Tuesday

City reminds residents that there will be no garbage, leaf and yard waste or recycling pickup on Monday due to the holiday

The City of Sault Ste. Marie reminds citizens of the following service interruptions for the Victoria Day holiday.

Garbage and Recycling Collection:

There is no garbage, leaf and yard waste or recycling pickup on Monday, May 18. Collection will be one day late.

Leaf and Yard Waste is collected on your scheduled garbage day bi-weekly. To view the Leaf and Yard Waste collection calendar and see which week your leaf and yard waste collection will be, visit saultstemarie.ca/leafyardwaste  

The City’s landfill will be closed on Victoria Day, Monday, May 18. Due to the current COVID-19 situation, the landfill is currently closed on Saturdays until further notice. Regular hours are Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for essential service only. This includes any garbage causing odours or rodent issues. Only two people per vehicle and children are not allowed. Expect delays as security will be strictly enforcing physical distancing and health and safety measures.

The Household Hazardous Waste Depot remains closed until further notice.

Transit service:

Transit and Parabus will not operate Monday, May 18. The essential service weekend schedule for transit and Parabus will resume operations on Tuesday, May 19. A reminder to customers that Transit Services is limiting the amount of passengers to 10 – 12 riders per bus to ensure it continues to provide physical distancing as needed. Marine facilities:

The Bellevue Marina will open on Tuesday, May 19. Regular hours of operation are Monday to Thursday 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday to Sunday 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Season passes are available from the Kiosk or by calling 705-759-5310 to arrange an appointment. The supervisor or designate will meet you at the Bellevue Marina. Debit or Credit card is preferred. Boaters can also download the Passport Parking mobile app and use zone 3759 for daily launch. 

Playgrounds and recreational facilities:

The City’s playgrounds and recreational facilities remain closed. On Tuesday May 19, the following facilities will be open for use:

  • Tennis courts (at the following parks – Birchwood, Boston, LaSalle, Manzo, McMeeken, North St., Penhorwood, Snowdon, Sutton, Wilcox and William Merrifield) 

  • Dog Park (Strathclair Park)

  • Pickleball (at the following parks – LaSalle, McMeeken, Snowdon and William Merrifield)

  • Disc Golf Course (Penhorwood Park)

  • Pump Track (Esposito Park)

  • Skateboard track (Queen Elizabeth Park)

Citizens are reminded to refer to on-site signage, practice physical distancing and health and safety protocols.

Under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act, the government of Ontario’s ban on gatherings of more than five people is still in effect until further notice. Everyone must stay home except for essential reasons, practice physical distancing of at least two metres apart from others at all times and avoid close contact with those outside of your immediate family.
