“I am extremely proud to be a part of today’s event and to have the opportunity to celebrate and share in the accomplishment of one of our students. I thank MAAC for supporting our students and for helping to further emphasize the importance of education and learning,” said Dr. Ron Common, President Sault College.

“The Jack McGillivray Memorial MAAC Bursary is one way that our organization can support MAAC members, who are pursuing their passions and studies,” said Kevin McGrath. “I am very excited to present this bursary to Ryan Petrie and we wish him all the best as he moves through his educational journey.”

Ryan, who is going into his second year, is the sole recipient of this national bursary for 2017 and is the second student from Sault College to receive this bursary in the past four years! Sault College student Graeme Ellis was the national recipient in 2013.

“Since I was six years old it has been my dream to fly. As I grew older and began my flight training my dream became my passion. I would like to thank the Model Aeronautics Association of Canada for their generous support and for allowing me to continue studying at Sault College to pursue my dream of a career in aviation,” explained Sault College student and bursary recipient, Ryan Petrie.

“On behalf of Sault College, I congratulate Ryan on this achievement. We are thrilled that one of our Aviation students was recognized through this national bursary and we are honoured to present this cheque to him alongside MAAC,” said David Orazietti, Dean of Aviation, Trades and Technology, Natural Environment and Business, Sault College.

The Jack McGillivray Memorial MAAC Bursary is given out annually to a student enrolled in a Canadian educational institution, who is eligible for student loans and is or will be registered in an aviation or aerospace education. Applicants must be a current MAAC member and have at least two consecutive years membership.

Eligible students can apply for this bursary by submitting a cover letter, resume, and reference letters. MAAC is dedicated to serving all aspects of modelling through national leadership by encouraging individuals, family and community participation, and promoting high standards of safety and personal fulfillment.
