APH reports one death, small hospitalization increase, active COVID cases drop slightly

Thursday's report includes 568 active cases and 18 hospitalizations

Algoma Public Health is reporting one death and 18 hospitalizations in the Algoma region in the latest COVID-19 update, released Thursday afternoon.

The number of hospitalizations is up by one from Wednesday's update. There is one additional hospitalization that is an individual not from the Algoma region and temporarily in the area.

APH is reporting 568 active cases in the region, down by two from Wednesday's update.

There are two additional active cases that are non-Algoma residents who are temporarily in the region.

The number of confirmed cases in Algoma rose by 58 and the number of resolved cases in the region rose by 58 from Wednesday's update.

The number of tests completed in Algoma is up by 534 from Wednesday to a total of 229,662.

Note: As of Dec. 31, 2021, the province has limited COVID-19 PCR testing to the highest risk populations. Furthermore, some people with mild or asymptomatic infection may not seek testing. Algoma Public Health states that the numbers of confirmed cases are an underestimate of the actual number of people with COVID-19 in the Algoma region.
