Algoma Public Health is reporting one new hospitalization, and 53 newly confirmed cases of COVID-19, but due to limits on who can be tested, those numbers may be underestimated.
There are 411 active cases of COVID-19 in the region, up from 400 yesterday, and 42 cases have been resolved.
In this report, APH says there are 22 people in hospital with COVID-19, three of whom were admitted due to COVID-19-related illness.
Three people have been admitted to the ICU with COVID-19-related illness, but not all of those cases have been confirmed.
APH ran 301 COVID-19 tests with a positivity rate of 17.6 per cent.
Of those eligible, 85.2 per cent of Algoma residents have received at least two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine.
Note: As of Dec. 31, 2021, the province has limited COVID-19 PCR testing to the highest risk populations. Furthermore, some people with mild or asymptomatic infection may not seek testing. Algoma Public Health states that the numbers of confirmed cases are an underestimate of the actual number of people with COVID-19 in the Algoma region.
