Over the last week, five people have died due to COVID-19, says Algoma Public Health.
Out of respect for the families of these people, no further information is available.
APH is reporting 23 new cases of COVID-19.
There are five cases that are under investigation to determine how the individuals became infected, 12 cases that were close contacts tied to known cases in the area and six cases are of unknown origin.
Most of the cases were tested between Nov. 22 and 23, and are self-isolating.
The remaining five cases are under investigation.
There are currently 15 people hospitalized and 282 active cases.
The total number of confirmed cases since the beginning of the pandemic has climbed to 941, and there have been 14 deaths.
Since the beginning of Algoma's fourth wave of the pandemic in early July, 59% of COVID-19 cases were in people who were not fully immunized.
